The John Ruan Foundation recently made a donation of $100,000 to Des Moines Area Community College's (DMACC) Transportation Institute for the purchase of a new driving simulator. The new, advanced semi-truck driving simulator will be combined with another version already in use.
As stated in a release from DMACC, “On behalf of the students, faculty and instructors of the DMACC Transportation Institute, we are very grateful for this generous gift from the Ruan Foundation," said Rob Denson, president of DMACC. “John Ruan was a leader and innovator in the transportation industry. He knew the importance of skilled, well-trained drivers. This donation will contribute to Mr. Ruan's legacy and help us prepare the next generation of over-the-road drivers."
The new driving simulator has the look and feel of a real semi—including all available instruments. The classroom the simulator is used in has now been named the Ruan Transportation Virtual Driving Center. The simulator will be used in conjunction with hands-on training in DMACC semi-trucks on a concourse outside the facility.
