Feb 1, 2016
As 2016 begins, we want to take some time to reflect on the past year. Our team members’ accomplishments in 2015 truly embodied our Guiding Principles of Safety Focus, People First, Customer Satisfaction, Exceptional Performance and Continuous Improvement. Our sincere gratitude to all of our employees, customers, industry leaders and advocates for making 2015 an outstanding year.
Received Safety Awards from Volvo Trucks and the ATA
The Volvo Trucks Safety Award program recognizes the outstanding safety performance of North American fleets. Ruan was recognized in the more than 20 million miles category and received $25,000 toward future safety initiatives. Ruan received second place in the ATA National Truck & Industrial Safety Contests’ Safe Fleet Award in the Tank Truck/Line-Haul/Over 10 Million Miles division. Ruan was also awarded two Safety Improvement Award Certificates in recognition of the safety improvements we completed during 2014.
First John Ruan Founder’s Award Presented to Outstanding Driver
Ruan presented our first ever John Ruan Founder’s Award to a very deserving professional driver. The first recipient of this award was Ruan driver Bob Easom, out of T024 in Middletown, DE.
After being on duty for over 12 hours, Easom was completing his last
delivery of the day when he witnessed a man standing near a bus stop collapse and fall face down. Easom rushed over and began CPR while directing others nearby to call 911. He continued performing CPR
until paramedics arrived. Easom’s quick thinking and heroic actions
resulted in saving the individual’s life.
Named Seventh Driver of the Year
Tony Roper, who operates out of T561 in Muscatine, IA, was named Ruan’s 2014 Driver of the Year in July. He has been with Ruan since 1991 and has logged more than 2 million miles during his 23 years as a professional truck driver. Roper was chosen from a pool of more than 4,200 professional drivers and serves Ruan’s dedicated customer HNI.
Named Second Terminal of the Year
Ruan honored the Neosho, MO, operation, led by Terminal
Manager Ruff Yokley, as the 2014 Terminal of the Year. The Neosho
terminals, which serve several customers including Jarden Consumer
Solutions, Gavilon and Marmon/Keystone, were selected based on their strong overall performance, safety records and exceptional customer service.
Recognized as Industry Leader by Four Industry Publications
Ruan received the number 18 spot in Transport Topics’ list of the Top 50 Logistics Companies and number 41 on Transport Topics’ list of the Top 100 For-hire Carriers. Logistics Management awarded Ruan the Quest for Quality Award in their Bulk Motor Carriers category. The magazine also ranks the top for-hire carriers by sector, and Ruan was awarded the number five spot in the tank/bulk sector. Ruan landed in Inbound Logistics magazine’s unranked list of the Top 100 3PL Providers and on their 2015 Top 100 Trucker list. Ruan was also chosen for Heavy Duty Trucking’s list of 2015 Top Green Fleets.
Hired Approximately 1,820 Professional Drivers
Despite the national driver shortage, Ruan hired approximately 1,820 professional drivers during 2015. Our professional drivers are essential to our success, and we employ the finest fleet in the industry. Drivers are usually dedicated to a single customer; receive in-depth training; earn safety and employee recognition awards; and use well-maintained, late-model equipment. This has contributed to a team of satisfied drivers, reflected in Ruan’s retention rate, which is well above the industry average.
Raised More Than $168,000 during United Way Campaign
In late October, Ruan corporate team members joined forces to raise money for the United Way of Central Iowa. The Ruan team raised a record of more than $168,000 during the 2015 campaign, and 217 people participated. In addition to monetary donations, team members volunteered throughout the community and held a clothing drive.
Celebrated Opening of New CNG Station
State and local officials joined representatives from Ruan and U.S. Gain as they watched a Ruan compressed natural gas (CNG) truck break the ribbon to celebrate the grand opening of the newest GAIN® Clean Fuel CNG station in Des Moines, IA. Ruan currently has nearly 100 CNG tractors with plans to expand to additional units where there is a fit.
