World Food Prize Laureate to Be Announced June 11


May 27, 2009, Des Moines, IA  - U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will preside over the announcement of the 2009 World Food Prize Laureate on June 11 at the State Department in Washington, D.C. 2009 marks the nineteenth anniversary the Ruan Foundation's financial support of the World Food Prize.


"We are honored to have Secretary Clinton's support," says John Ruan III, President and CEO of Ruan Transport Corp. and Chairman of the World Food Prize, who will attend the World Food Prize Laureate announcement ceremony in June. "Bringing food and resources to people is what we do every day. Ruan is proud to endow the Prize and help honor those who have made significant and measurable contributions to improving the world's food supply."


The 2009 Laureate will receive the $250,000 World Food Prize at a ceremony at the Iowa State Capitol on October 15. The 2008 Laureates were U.S. Senators George McGovern and Bob Dole.
