Land O'Lakes Donates Nearly 40,000 lbs. of Cheese to the Food Bank Serving Southwestern Wisconsin

First of 12 Fresh Food Donations to be made in 2010

St. Paul, Minnesota - Land O'Lakes, Inc. today donated 38,880 lbs. of LAND O LAKES||special174|| Mild Cheddar Cheese to Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin, a member of Feeding America, in the company's ongoing efforts to help alleviate hunger.

The delivery to Second Harvest Foodbank is Land O'Lakes first donation as part of its recently announced "First Run" program. With the "First Run" program, Land O'Lakes has committed to donating a truckload of fresh product to one Feeding America food bank per month in 2010 to help alleviate hunger nationwide.

"As a national, farmer-owned cooperative Land O'Lakes is committed to helping the growing number of people struggling to put food on their table," said Land O'Lakes Foundation Executive Director Lydia Botham. "And Second Harvest Foodbank's long-standing history of providing food for those in need makes them the perfect recipient for this first donation."

The "First Run" program encourages collaboration with local Land O'Lakes supply chain partners to help maximize capabilities. For this delivery, supply chain partner donations include:

  • Alcan Packaging Food Americas (packaging film-19,440 impressions)
  • Green Bay Packaging, Inc. (corrugated cases-1,080 display shippers)
  • WOW Logistics (warehousing and handling)
  • Ruan Transport Corporation (transportation)

"The First Run program recognizes that our production lines do not always run around the clock, and by collaborating with suppliers, packagers and transport companies we can effectively activate production in otherwise idle times to produce food for donation," said Botham. "Our partners for this delivery have been exceptional; they've really set the bar high for our next 11 fresh food donations."

The "First Run" program is part of Land O'Lakes larger Feeding Our Communities initiative - a program dedicated to helping alleviate hunger locally, nationally and internationally. For more information on any of these programs, visit the Land O'Lakes Foundation Web page at
