Ruan has been honored again for our sustainability efforts. Inbound Logistics magazine has selected Ruan as a Green Supply Chain Partner for the second year in a row. The magazine selected the 75 leading transportation companies in green supply chain management and logistics partnerships for this distinction.
According to Inbound Logistics, the selection process considers a company's involvement in three areas: participation in public-private partnerships; corporate sustainability initiatives; and collaborative customer-driven projects. Within this context, four benchmarks carry weight in the decision-making: measurable green results, sustainability innovation, continuous improvement and industry recognition.
The magazine considered more than 200 transportation and logistics companies for the award.
Ruan utilizes a variety of environmentally friendly strategies, including idle reduction and auxiliary power unit (APU) usage, low viscosity lubricants, reduced highway speeds, lightweight equipment, paperless technologies and processes and successful driver training designed with an emphasis on maintenance and fuel consumption. We continually investigate new, sustainable fuel options like biodiesel and compressed natural gas (CNG). In fact, Ruan currently operates one of the largest CNG fleets in the country hauling dairy products in Indiana. The use of CNG at this operation will eliminate as many as 1.8 million gallons of diesel fuel each year. Ruan is also a longstanding SmartWay partner and a SmartWay Excellence Award winner for 2012 and 2013.
“Inbound Logistics readers have always recognized the importance of supply chain sustainability. The 2014 selection of top 75 Green Supply Chain Partners—including Ruan—are truly keeping to their word and staying conscious of their own supply chain sustainability,” said Felecia Stratton, editor of Inbound Logistics. “These 75 companies have an outstanding record of making the supply chain more efficient for customers, as well as internally within the business. By striving to become as green as possible, Ruan is included in this group of companies, and Inbound Logistics is extremely proud to honor their efforts and accomplishments.”
