Meet Steve Millang, Dairy Driver

"Hi, I'm Ruan driver Steve Millang. Let's talk about working for one of the most respected trucking companies in the industry. Ruan.

"Well-known for his talkative nature, it only seems right that Ruan driver Steve Millang would voice so many of Ruan's radio ads. These opportunities to do something different-and earn a few extra bucks in the process-are just one reason Millang enjoys his job as a dairy driver for Ruan.

"Being a dairy driver is a good gig. And I like to do those radio ads because they're a good way to earn extra money.  I appreciate getting the chance to do something a little different," Millang said.  Millang, a veteran truck driver, began his career with Ruan hauling cement for several years. Millang picked up as many loads as he could back in the day. He focused on constantly being on the go and maximizing his paycheck.  As he progressed through his career, Millang decided he wanted to slow down a bit, and this led to his transition into dairy. He currently works four days and then has four days off. This fits Millang's lifestyle well as it allows him to take a month's vacation to Florida during each winter using minimal paid time off.   "I only have to use eight vacation days in order to get 20 days off-and just 12 vacation days to get 28 days off-with this schedule. Ruan is flexible with me and makes it easy to get the time off that I want," Millang said. Millang's day begins around 4:45 a.m. as he jumps seats with the previous dairy driver. After performing his onboard recorder login and pre-trip procedures, he arrives at Anderson Erickson Dairy (AE) with his first load around 6 a.m. Millang easily prepares his tanker for the customer to unload and spends the next 30 minutes or so waiting for it to be unloaded. He passes the time visiting with fellow dairy drivers. Then it's back to the farm to drop off his empty tanker and pick up a full one. He'll arrive once again at AE around 11 a.m. to unload, followed by one last trip to the farm and back. By 5:30 p.m., Millang is done and ready to call it a day.
