Driver of the Year

Robert Moore was named Ruan Transportation Management Systems’ 2016 Driver of the Year last weekRobert Moore Headshot after being selected from a pool of more than 4,600 professional drivers. Moore, who operates out of T637 in Bethlehem, PA, has been with Ruan since 2011, logging more than 3.8 million miles during his 38 years as a professional truck driver. He serves Ruan customer Linde Industrial Gases and has had zero preventable accidents.

Ruan began the search for our Driver of the Year when 177 drivers from Ruan’s 300 operations were named finalists based on length of service, safety performance and exceptional customer service.

Our vice presidents of operations then narrowed the field further to 15 Winners’ Circle honorees, who traveled to Des Moines with a guest July 18-20 for an award ceremony and other festivities. Out of the Winners’ Circle, Ruan’s executive leadership team selected Moore as the Driver of the Year.

"This recognition is our way of honoring your dedication, professionalism and ongoing commitment to Ruan," said CEO Ben McLean at the award ceremony. "When you think about it, each one of us who works at Ruan defines the company by our actions each and every day.  The fact is, our professional drivers are the most visible to our customers. Our customers judge the quality of our company on the service provided by their drivers."

Each honoree was awarded a trophy and cash prize at the Driver and Operation of the Year award ceremony at the World Food Prize Hall of Laureates. Moore was honored with a trophy, a cash prize and the 2016 Driver of the Year title.

Operation of the Year

Ruan’s Chester, VA, operation, led by Dedicated Transportation Manager Fred Saunders, was named the 2016 Operation of the Year.

T007, which serves Airgas Merchant Gases, was selected based on the operation’s demonstration of our Guiding Principles of Safety Focus, People First, Customer Satisfaction, Exceptional Performance and Continuous Improvement. The operation employs 36 team members, and the professional truck drivers travel more than 3.6 million miles each year using cryogenic tankers to haul liquid oxygen, nitrogen and argon.

To select the Operation of the Year, each of our vice presidents of operations selected an operation in their business unit that performs at the highest level. That performance was based on criteria including safety, team member retention, customer satisfaction and overall performance.

Our executive leadership team then narrowed the list of finalists to three Winners’ Circle honorees. In addition to T007, T086 in Midlothian, TX, led by Dedicated Transportation Manager Tim O’Connor, and our Des Moines, IA, operating center, led by Operations Team Leader Matt Fleming, were honored as part of the Winners’ Circle. Executive leaders selected the Chester operation as the Operation of the Year from among the Winners’ Circle.

The 2016 Operation of the Year received a trophy, awards for all winning team members and a corporate-hosted celebration in Chester, which will take place later this summer.

Congratulations to our Driver of the Year and our Operation of the Year, as well as all of our Winners’ Circles!
