SAFETY MANAGER – Cleveland, Ohio
Ensure implementation of compliance and loss prevention policy, and the applicable local, state and federal regulations that apply, and to ensure that a positive safety attitude and environment exists within the terminal operations. Will work remotely and reside in the Cleveland, Ohio, area. Region covered will be the Midwest from the Mississippi East and a portion of the Northeast.  Travel will be required.

  • Conduct compliance reviews.  Review and audit assigned terminals for compliance through a systematic process.  Ensure compliance within respective terminals. 
  • Develop and facilitate safety and compliance training for terminals.  Identify training needs at the terminal operations level.   Coach, mentor, and train Dedicated Transportation Managers and staff. 
  • Review terminal operations incident frequencies, identify trends, and monitor terminal operations activity for corrective action, in conjunction with the Corporate Director of Safety.  Coach and mentor terminal staff on accident and injury analysis and completion of training. 
  • Identify training needs for management and drivers on company policy, federal and state regulations, vehicle inspection, hours of service, hazardous materials and other safety-related areas. Assist the Dedicated Transportation Manager and Regional Manager in any necessary training. 
  • Investigate special cause incidents.   These include preventable DOT recordable accidents, serious collisions where the liability is not clear, all cargo losses (spill, mix, alleged failure of equipment), lost time personal injuries, any incident involving company vehicle lay-over or rollover, any incident involving inadequate/improper cargo securement, any company driver fatality, all violations of company, OSHA, DOT, or other applicable policies, procedures, rules or regulations will be considered when investigating special cause incidents. 
  • Develop tracking mechanism for monitoring terminal operations safety performance.  Create action plans to improve performance.

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience; Course(s) of study: Advanced training in the transportation safety industry. 
  • 3-5 years experience in transportation / safety industry 
  • Employee should have broad knowledge in DOT rules and regulations. 
  • Employee should have the demonstrated ability to carry out detailed written and oral instructions.  Strong geography skills.  Basic PC skills.   
  • Demonstrated leadership and management ability. Employee should possess excellent verbal and written communications skills.  Ability to set priorities
