Carrier Development Professional
The Carrier Development Professional supports the Brokerage Division by developing and maintaining carrier relationships that grow Ruan’s base of saleable capacity.
  • Develop and maintain carrier relationships.
  • Attract and set up new carriers, improve existing carrier utilization and relationships, and provide customer service to shippers.
  • Solicit capacity by phone and email daily to expand capacity to support current business needs while also creating capacity for new business additions.
  • Understand and manage carrier requirements; execute capacity for lanes in accordance with carriers’ capacity needs and requirements.
  • Match best carrier to shipments, schedule pick-up or delivery appointments with shippers/consignees, verify correct shipping and delivery addresses, and obtain any special shipping or delivery instructions.
  • Obtain rate quotes from carriers for both spot and contract business.
  • Manage, communicate, and negotiate assessorial charges as incurred.
  • Understand market conditions, as well as company’s core products, modes, and services. 
  • Utilize lane rate knowledge and historical data to dynamically negotiate favorable arrangements with carriers and customers in order to maximize secured margin / margin percentage.
  • Serve as solution provider and value-add to carrier through knowledge, communication, and quality customer service.
  • Data Entry – enter accurate shipment details into system as needed to ensure customer requirements are met and billing is done in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Communication – provide daily updates as well as communicate shipment milestones and capacity forecasts to core carriers and newly onboarded carriers.
  • Perform load planning and coordination, including contacting prospective carriers to offer secured shipments, tender shipments, and track shipments from pick-up to delivery status.  
  • Ensure shipments are dispatched promptly, and timely updates are provided and entered into systems.
  • Achieve set carrier sales targets
  • Perform other job-related duties and special projects as required.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
    Course(s) of study: Transportation, Logistics, Communications, or Business-Related field preferred.
