Driver Training Specialist

Responsible for facilitating driver orientation programs while maintaining and promoting a positive attitude and environment. Act as an on-site contact of driver training center for program participants. Execute routine training program, including materials, assessments, and evaluations. Collaborate with team to monitor curriculum and make needed improvements based on changing regulations, policies, etc. Build and maintain relationships with internal subject matter experts and outside vendors to ensure appropriate support for all training programs and online learning resources. Help evaluate training effectiveness and assist with modifications where applicable. Execute programs within budget.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate new hire driver training and orientation through a variety of instructional methods including face-to-face classroom, mobile device, hands-on equipment training, etc. Use adult learning principles and industry best practices to create an engaging, effective learning experience for all participants. 
  • Present information in a positive manner using a variety of instructional techniques and technologies. Manage participant behaviors and disruptions to maintain a safe and effective learning environment for the larger group.
  • Help prepare facilities, equipment, materials, and participants for a successful training program.
  • Assist with ordering, receiving, storing, compiling, and shipment of driver materials as needed.
  • Monitor driver training center enrollment and execute routine training schedule with a focus on continuous process improvement. Be available to communicate and collaborate with participants, their managers, safety, organizational development, and other stakeholders to ensure promotion and awareness of driver training center progress.
  • Execute pre- and/or post-class communication with drivers as needed. 
  • Distribute, collect, and properly file all pertinent training documents. Assist drivers as needed with completing necessary in-class paperwork. 
  • Be available during breaks or after class if further assistance is required. 
  • Collaborate with others to monitor and continuously improve driver learning resources.
  • Edit and revise materials as needed. Communicate changes to ensure standard training. Submit ongoing content feedback to superiors. 
  • Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with new drivers. Interact with drivers with a focus on engagement and retention. 
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience;
    Course(s) of study:  Transportation, Safety, Organizational Development/Adult Learning, Human Resources Management or related courses.
  • 3-5 years of experience and background should include knowledge of truck transportation and driver safety.  
  • Must be experienced in facilitating classroom and hands-on training.  
  • Must be able to present information and interact with drivers while having awareness of and respect for diversity, equity, and inclusion. 
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and Teams. Must also have extensive computer and web-based knowledge for online ordering, file download/upload, technology navigation and troubleshooting
  • Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, dynamic public speaking and facilitation/classroom management skills with the ability to effectively interact and facilitate learning with groups of all sizes using a variety of learning technologies.  
  • Must be able to effectively build relationships with drivers, managers, facilitators, and build support for effective training programs. 
  • Must be able to perform effectively without direct supervision. Ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment, adapting quickly to change. Requires ability to balance dynamic workload and manage time appropriately.
