The Ruan Experience:
Networking and Professional Development: Ruan encourages all of our interns to join the DSM Intern Connection, a summer event series provided by Greater Des Moines that features opportunities for interns to connect with leaders and executives, as well as fellow young professionals in the Des Moines community. Additionally, Ruan interns can participate in the Des Moines Corporate Games, a fun and competitive way to engage with the local community and network with peers. Workshops and online courses are also provided to Ruan interns, covering communication, meeting etiquette, mastering small talk, and more.
Projects: Interns will be suited with meaningful projects throughout their time at Ruan that allow them to get to know other sides of the business, all while developing critical skills, gaining industry knowledge, and preparing for a successful position into their long-term careers.
Volunteer Opportunities: Ruan takes a deep sense of pride in our philanthropic spirit, serving our communities across the nation in numerous ways. Our interns will get to experience that spirit and are provided with a handful of volunteer opportunities throughout their time here, all while getting to network and experience other fields in our industry firsthand, such as being a part of the Iowa Truck Driving Championships and Ruan's Top Tech competition.
Team Building Activities: Enjoy getting to know your teammates and other interns at Ruan! Our program goes above and beyond to create lasting connections and a positive work environment amongst our interns through team building activities that foster collaboration, creativity, and communication.
Ruan Operations and Warehouse Tours: We want our interns to get a true understanding of the transportation and logistics industry and how our company operates, which is why our program provides the opportunity to visit our local operations and warehouses to experience firsthand the importance of the supply chain and how it functions.
Hear from our interns:

"I chose to intern at Ruan because it is a well-respected company in the transportation industry, and as an Iowa State student, I believed this would be a place where I would fit in. I really appreciate the culture and the people at Ruan; everyone has been so friendly and helpful during my time as an intern. Additionally, since I’m not from Des Moines, getting to work in the heart of downtown has been a really cool experience."

"Ruan brings a sense of community and teamwork to a new level. They allow each team member to feel included and important, involving them in work that is both fulfilling and significant. Ruan also fosters a unique community that you can’t find elsewhere. The IT team is filled with countless amazing and hard-working individuals, and it has been a blast getting to know each and every one of them! My favorite experience as an intern was diving deep into projects and workstreams. This process has given me a better understanding of the professional world and allowed me to hone my skills as an individual."

"The best part of interning at Ruan was working on complex problems unique to the transportation and logistics industry. The numbers on your screen aren't just data; they represent real people and goods moving from place to place. With Ruan's headquarters located in the heart of downtown Des Moines, I was able to build relationships with local business professionals, both within and outside the company. Ruan played a significant role in helping me start my career in this amazing city."

"During my initial interview, I got a great sense of what the position would be like and what I’d be doing over the summer. I immediately liked how friendly everybody was, and the fact that team members are always so willing to help others ended up being my favorite part of the internship. Throughout my time on the Data Analytics Team, I created, refined, and updated reports for both internal users at Ruan and our external customers. I was able to become more advanced with software like Microsoft SQL Server and PowerBI while also gaining essential on-the-job experience that I would not have gotten otherwise."
