Ruan is excited to share that our technology team has fully implemented a conversion to Geotab as our new Electronic Logging Device (ELD) provider. Earlier this year, our team had the opportunity to attend the eighth annual Geotab conference, Connect 2025. Ruan’s Emily D., Product Owner of In Cab Technologies, was a guest panel speaker at this event, sharing her invaluable insights on the future of fleet management and telematics. The panel discussion topic was “The data revolution: Transforming your fleet for tomorrow." Ruan has been fully utilizing Geotab as our ELD system to track hours of service for drivers and electronic daily vehicle inspection reports. This allows us to collect data that contributes to compliance, maintenance, and safety reporting within the organization.
What do you think makes Geotab Connect such an important event for our industry?
Telematics isn’t just for Class 8 fleets, but for multifaceted industries globally. Geotab's Connect conference brought together industry leaders who are future-oriented about various technologies and the benefits of integrating them within the Geotab partner network and ecosystem. Integrating data, vendors, and unique processes has the power to propel many fleets into the next generation of technological advancements, whether that be in Class 8 or a public sector. Geotab and the Connect conference inspire and energize attendees with a unique vision about data, innovation, and fleet optimization. It's also about promoting the idea of breaking the boundaries of what is possible.
How do you think the discussions at Geotab Connect 2025 will influence the future of fleet management and connected vehicle technology?
Discussions at Geotab's Connect conference enabled users with similar fleets, goals, and integrated technology to share how they have utilized the data extracted from Geotab devices to inform decisions about their fleet. Examples ranged from exception management for behaviors based on integrations with safety program systems to analysis of fuel consumption and idle time, providing data points for driver recognition programs, maintenance data for improving uptime, and asset longevity.
How does the conference foster collaboration between different sectors of the industry, such as fleet operators, technology providers, and policymakers?
It brings together a community of users who share a goal of fostering safe fleets for the shared roadways, to get everyone home safely for dinner, soccer practices and the things that are so important to our families waiting for us at home.
Tell us about your role in the organization and what inspired you to participate as a speaker at Geotab Connect.
Geotab approached Ruan to share our experience piloting their devices as well as the beginning of our nationwide conversion. We participated in a panel with two other carriers, discussing the planning and preparation for large fleet technology conversions from the physical hardware installations to data integrations, user training and reporting dashboards. I was able to share my experience as a Product Owner at Ruan and the unique opportunities I’m given.
What was the main topic of your presentation, and why is it important in today’s industry?
Session: “The data revolution: Transforming your fleet for tomorrow”
Summary: “Imagine harnessing the power of real-time data to optimize your fleet's performance. This session reveals how to overcome the challenges of legacy systems and propel your business into the future of transportation.”
Each representative on the panel offered advice they would want other fleets to consider when modernizing their systems to adopt data-driven decision-making. Ruan discussed some of the initial hurdles we faced when transitioning away from legacy systems and the actions we took to overcome them. Training on new technology is always essential for the adoption and success when implementing new applications. Ruan created a "day in the life" simulator for drivers to practice workflow and navigation of the varying applications incorporated into their roles, which is now included in our driver training program. As we continue to integrate and adopt technology in the future, we discussed how training could incorporate simulations, gamification, or other tech-driven approaches to enhance safety training as the industry evolves. Finally, we covered the security and privacy of the vast amounts of data generated by your fleet with the conversion to Geotab. We outlined some of the cybersecurity measures in place to protect against potential threats to technology systems. Drivers are utilizing the In-Cab systems and the training we provide for continual education.
