People First Spotlight - Morgan Schultz

Sep 22, 2023

Happy American Business Women's Day! We thank all female professionals for their contributions and accomplishments. In recognition of American Business Women's Day, we are proud to feature Ruan's Senior Corporate Counsel Morgan Schultz in our People First Spotlight.

Q: Tell us a little about your career path and background. Morgan Headshot

I was born and raised in Alaska where I developed a tolerance for snow and a love for the great outdoors. After finishing law school in Colorado, I spent a year working for a judge and then began my career in private practice, focusing on insurance defense. I was a trial attorney, and I’m proud to say I had an undefeated trial record! Since then, I joined Ruan in 2020 and was promoted to Sr. Corporate Counsel earlier this year.

Q: What do you enjoy most about working for Ruan?

I am still learning new things about our industry every day, and it helps that everyone at Ruan is great at what they do. I interface with a lot of different teams and always appreciate our team members’ dedication and willingness to share their expertise with me. I feel fortunate to work for a company with such a commitment to safety and a positive company culture.

Q: What is your favorite memory during your time at Ruan?

I began at Ruan in 2020 during the heart of the pandemic, which was an interesting and challenging time to begin a new career. It was wonderful when folks started coming back to the office and I had the opportunity to finally meet my coworkers!

Q: What excites you about Ruan’s inclusion and belonging efforts?

I am excited to see how Ruan will continue to live out its stated values and even deepen the commitment to fostering increased diversity and inclusion within our company and this industry.

Q: What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I love being active outdoors, traveling, and spending time with my daughter and my husband.

Q: In what ways are you involved in your community?

I am a board member for a children’s literacy non-profit called Everybody Wins! Iowa, which pairs elementary-age children with adult mentors to read a few books together every week. Early childhood education is a passion of mine, and I am proud to be a part of this organization.

Q: What advice would you share with those considering joining the trucking industry?

While it is daunting to enter a new industry, it has been rewarding to bring all of my past experiences together. Because our industry is at the forefront of so many important and emerging issues in our country, every day I feel like I have the opportunity to make a real difference.
