Ruan recently announced it has secured a new customer relationship with Charter Steel. The new business expands Ruan’s significant presence in the steel and metals vertical. The partnership with Charter Steel will create operations for Ruan in Saukville, WI, and Fostoria, OH, along with Cuyahoga Heights, OH. Ruan’s dedicated transportation service will support Charter customers, plants, and suppliers throughout the Midwest, East Coast and Mid-Atlantic regions of the U.S.

All drivers who currently serve Charter Steel at these locations and meet Ruan’s qualifications have been invited to apply and join the Ruan team. These Ruan team members will receive a competitive wage, full benefits, and flexible schedules. Both home daily and over-the-road positions are available with great schedules for drivers. Routes will serve, on average, a 200-mile area around the various operating locations. Ruan will employ more than 100 team members to support Charter Steel, including professional drivers, diesel technicians, and office personnel. Full-time professional drivers have the potential to earn up to $76,000 annually.

“We are excited to be expanding our position in this space with such a great company in Charter Steel. It was clear from the start that our two companies shared cultural values. We have been welcomed by the communities, the Charter staff, and local professional drivers. We are excited for our new team members to join us and grow this partnership for years to come,” said Ruan President and COO Dan Van Alstine.

Drivers for this operation will be using new 2020 model trucks equipped with safety features such as collision mitigation and lane departure assistance. All Ruan drivers are trained in the proprietary Megasafe Safety Program, which trains drivers to keep themselves and the motoring public safe based on regulations, industry trends, and best practices. Ruan drivers will also use Ruan’s mobility platform called RedTrak to complete electronic logs, capture real time data, and monitor safety performance.

“As a customer-centric organization that focuses on providing market-leading service to our customers, we are thrilled with our new partnership with Ruan to help us deliver final-mile value to our customers. The selection of Ruan as a strategic partner was driven by common alignment to our Core Values of trust, teamwork, safety and continuous improvement which have shaped our company over four generations and are fundamental to who we are. With Ruan’s focus on Safety, People First, and Customer Satisfaction as a foundation, they engaged our selection team in a fashion that earned our trust to represent Charter Steel in the communities that we and our customers operate,” stated Jeff Schellinger, Charter Steel Vice President of Supply Chain.

More than 10 percent of the company’s portfolio is metals related and operates using specialized dry van, and flatbed trailers. The local presence ensures Charter Steel’s products are delivered safely and on time to customers in the region.

“Our drivers are proud to work for Ruan and to be serving Charter Steel. Our locations in Wisconsin and Ohio are ideal to service the region and meet the customers’ needs,” said Dedicated Transportation Manager Chuck Robertson.
