This position is based out of Des Moines, IA
This position is responsible for leading multiple dedicated contract transportation (DCT) operations with primary responsibility for developing and leading on-site managers. Will be directly responsible for critical operational decisions impacting customer retention and operational performance as well as team member development and performance. This position has direct p/l accountability and is responsible for developing and implementing key performance metrics and measuring, monitoring and enhancing operational performance and customer satisfaction through their effective use.
  • Supervise and provide leadership to build and maintain a strong team through effective communications, recruiting, training, coaching, counseling, appraising, rewarding, developing, and succession planning.
  • Direct and drive operational efficiencies that achieve operational and financial performance expectations.  Develop, communicate and monitor Key Performance Indicators for each operation/account and implement action plans to improve performance.
  • Analyze operational data to determine trends and initiate action to positively impact cost factors and financial performance. 
  • Provide daily direction and support to on-site transportation managers.
  • Build and develop business relationships with assigned customers.  Enhance customer partnerships by establishing and communicating service metrics. Collaborate to achieve optimal solutions.  
  • Continually investigate, introduce and support continuous improvement efforts.  Ensure effective and efficient workflow and communications processes are in place.
  • In union environments, support the on-site team by working with local unions on collective bargaining unit issues.
  • Ensure a positive working environment exists within all operations that support the company's People First and Safety Focused expectations.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Transportation, Logistics or equivalent work experience required 
  • Requires 6- 9 years’ experience in Transportation or related field with at least 4 years supervisory experience, consisting of development, coaching and overall management is required. 
  • Candidates must have strong leadership skills and staff development experience with the ability to interact, communicate and motivate with all levels of employees and management.
  • Direct experience establishing business growth strategies with proven results of customer retention 
  • Travel is an expectation of this position based on business needs up to 50%.
