Recruiting Spotlight – Ashley Benavides-Leabo

Mar 1, 2024

We are excited to feature several of our team members in our Recruiting Spotlight, allowing you to learn more about who is on the other side of that Hotline call! Meet Ashley Benavides-Leabo, Sr. Driver Recruiter Specialist.

Q: Tell us a little about your career path and background.

Prior to joining the Ruan team in August 2018, I worked in the restaurant industry throughout various roles, starting as a hostess and progressing into a management position. It made my transition into the transportation and logistics industry and joining Ruan much smoother, as I was able to understand and relate to hiring for various schedules and positions in multiple types of markets.

At the beginning of my Ruan career, I joined the driver onboarding team for a startup Driver Training Center in Otsego, MN. I was able to be a part of pivoting our training program from a physical classroom into an online classroom, enabling drivers to participate without the need to travel during the COVID-19 pandemic. A new position on the Driver Recruiting team eventually opened, and I was ready for a new opportunity to expand my knowledge in a different aspect of our driver hiring process. I’m able to interact with drivers and operations at a deepened level to understand their needs. As a Sr. Driver Recruiting Specialist, I enjoy empathizing with drivers to better understand their perspectives. I love how my position challenges me and allows me to meet new people every day.

Q: What do you enjoy most about recruiting for Ruan?

I love recruiting for Ruan! I get to use my skills that I developed as a manager when it comes to interviewing, and I get to take the time needed to make small connections that, in return, often make a big impact. I also enjoy the stability and unpredictability of my day-to-day activities. Every day, I do similar tasks, but each person I meet is different, and their story is different.

Q: What types of positions are you currently recruiting for?

Currently, I’m recruiting various types of driving positions for a few of our dedicated customers. Whether it be home daily vs. regional, dry van vs. food grade tank, part-time vs. full-time, straight truck drivers, yard spotters, and more, Ruan offers a diverse set of opportunities throughout different parts of the U.S.

Q: What excites you about recruiting for Ruan?

I love that Ruan is a family-owned company and that it’s felt through daily operations. I feel close to the people I work with, and there are open lines of communication. It truly feels like One Ruan! I love that I can represent this to new drivers through the onboarding process.

Q: What question are you most frequently asked by prospective drivers and technicians?

I am frequently asked about home time, pay, and benefits. I enjoy when I’m asked about benefits! We offer medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) – and different pricing options to fit all needs and all families, big or small.

Q: What would you tell someone who is on the fence about applying to be a driver or technician at Ruan?

One of Ruan’s Guiding Principles is People First. I want you to make the best decision for you and your family, and if you have any unanswered questions, please write them down and ask. If I don’t have the answer immediately, I will get it and follow up. I think changing careers is difficult enough, so I want to make the process as easy and comfortable as possible.
