Ruan helps build garden for non-profit

John Ruan founded this company on July 4, 1932, with one truck and a strong work ethic during the Great Depression. Today, Ruan continues to excel because of committed team members willing to give back to the community.

Ruan celebrates Founder’s Days throughout the month of July with volunteer opportunities for team members to show their philanthropic spirit.

As part of Founder’s Days, a team of Ruan volunteers in Des Moines, IA, recently built a raised garden at PACE Orchard Place. Orchard Place helps children with behavioral problems by assisting them in academic instruction and support, treatment for mental health and substance abuse and skill-building services for behavioral and psychological disorders. Caring for the garden, which the kids will plant, weed and harvest, will help teach them responsibility and accountability while giving them a sense of ownership.

The kids, however, aren’t the only ones excited about the garden.

“I like doing this,” said Darin Endecott, Ruan’s vice president of project management and quality. “And, it’s a great opportunity to be able to help out great organizations that are in our community.”

With Ruan’s help building the garden, the kids have yet another way to grow.
