Technician Tool Reimbursement Program

Work Boot Program
Ruan is committed to the health, safety and welfare of its employees. As part of the Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) provided, Ruan will provide a $150 voucher per calendar year to its mechanics who are required to wear work boots to purchase Red Wing Safety Boots.
Ruan Tech Apprenticeship Program
Ruan is always looking for individuals who want a long-term career, like to work with their hands, and solve problems. That's why the Ruan Technician Apprenticeship Program is available to individuals without prior technician training who want to learn from veteran diesel mechanics and become professional technicians. This program allows apprentices the opportunity to learn while working on the best late-model equipment in the trucking industry. Ruan provides apprentices with Snap-on tools that they can use while learning their new skills, and these tools will be given to the apprentices upon graduation from the three-year paid and structured apprenticeship program.

A Day in the Life of a Diesel Mechanic
Our diesel mechanics work on our fleet of late-model tractors and trailers to diagnose and solve mechanical problems using state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment. They perform routine preventative maintenance inspections, such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment. In addition, they complete state and federal inspections and more.
Work Schedule
Most full-time positions are guaranteed a 40-hour work week with opportunity to earn overtime hours. These are family-friendly schedules and your local manager can assist you with your schedule.
Become a Ruan Top Technician
Our technicians from across the company compete annually in our Top Technician Competition. This contest consists of an online knowledge test and a series of hands-on skills situations. We send the top three finishers to TMC’s SuperTech competition.
All full-time Ruan technicians are encouraged to complete the 100-question skill assessment. The results from the assessment will be used two ways. First, they will determine where we need to focus our future training efforts in order to continuously improve; and second, we will be able to identify the 10 highest scoring technicians.
These 10 technicians will be invited to compete in the hands-on portion of the Top Technician Competition in Des Moines, IA. Each will receive Ruan Top Tech logo patches to place on their uniforms in recognition of their achievement. The Top Technician Competition will be conducted during Ruan’s Technician Appreciation Week, where our operations and shops across the country will take the time to celebrate our technicians and service managers for the tremendous important role they play in ensuring our customers’ freight is delivered safely and on time.
