Shawn Goad, vice president of operations, was selected to participate in the American Trucking Associations' prestigious LEAD ATA program. The one-year program was designed to bring together top talent in trucking and enable these professionals to be strong leaders and advocates in the industry. Goad will spend nearly 35 days over the next year attending classes, meetings, networking and more.
“The LEAD ATA program will give me significant exposure to areas I have very little current knowledge in like the legislative process, setting governmental policy and how the regulatory process works,” Goad said. “Having a better understanding of these items will allow me to work with other leaders in our industry to help make positive changes for our employees across the country, especially our professional drivers.”
Goad is set to participate in the upcoming 2015-2016 session. He’ll attend four classes that cover such topics as the regulatory and legislative process, leadership and management skills and a thorough look at the ATA and trucking industry. He said he looks forward to utilizing these skills and knowledge to better Ruan and the industry as a whole.
“I'd like to understand the legislative process better and how both Ruan and I can better support our industry through that process,” Goad said. “Ultimately, I want to be a vocal advocate for my company and for the industry because without that advocacy, our industry will not receive the protection and attention it needs. I'm not the type of person to sit back and complain about highway funding or new HOS regulations. I'd prefer to be active in the debate on a level that can actually make a difference.”
